Seve and Venturi

May 16, 2011 - Steve Anderson
As many of you know I served as the Director of Instruction for the legendary Ken Venturi at his golf school on Hilton Head Island, S.C. from 1992-1996 before moving to southwest Florida. I learned many things from Mr. V as we called him and enjoyed discussing golf with him every chance I could.

With the passing last week of the great Seve Ballasteros to a brain tumor, I was reminded of what Mr. V told me once about Seve. He said that in his prime that Seve had the best golf swing of anyone he had ever seen. Quite a compliement coming from Ventrui who has played with many of golf's greatest players including Hogan, Nelson, Palmer and Nicklaus. I had just gotten into golf when Seve was 'the man' and I remember watching him attack the course like no one else. He was fearless and could find his way out of trouble better than anyone else. He had the looks and personality that the game needed and became a hero to many players of that time.

He'll be greatly missed by all who knew him and is many accomplishments in the game will be remembered forever.
